Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive, Age Concern

Mike has been Chief Executive of Age Concern Havering since March 2005. Age Concern Havering is a registered charity providing a wide range of services for the over 50s in Havering. It is independent from, though a member of the national Age Concern federation. The charity has its own Board of Trustees and is focused exclusively on this borough.

Mike serves on the Havering Strategic Partnership, representing older people. He has also been involved locally as a volunteer with The 3H Club, a Havering based charity for disabled people, for 20 years, for the last 8 years as Chairperson.

Mike has worked in the voluntary sector for 16 years, previously as Director of Fundraising for The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, and before that in various roles for RNIB. Before that he spent 13 years in general and merchant banking. Mike was born in the borough and continues to live here with his wife and 10 year old daughter

Following the results of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment earlier in 2009, and its findings on the numbers of older people in Havering and projected future growth, a decision was taken to research and create an Older Persons Strategy for Havering. Work on this has been underway since June 2009 and we hope to be publishing the strategy document and publicising its aims and contents shortly.
