'The HSP today is an inclusive and effective partnership that continues to deliver tangible benefits for our residents through joint initiatives such as the Community Chest and Local Area Agreement'

Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Michael White, said during his opening address at Havering Strategic Partnership's sixth Annual Conference.

Cllr White went on to paint the picture of what Havering will look like in 2020 and how our new goals and the 'Living Ambition' will help us to achieve that vision.

The conference, themed 'Making a Difference in the Community', took place at the Centre for Engineering & Manufacturing Excellence (CEME), Marsh Way in Rainham, where over 70 HSP delegates assembled to help develop the borough's Sustainable Community Strategy.

Delegates also attended a series of workshops designed to help generate ideas as to what Havering will look like in 2020 and what the main projects are that will help shape that vision of Havering.

Other speakers at the event included Chris Haynes, Regional Director of the Government Office for London (GOL), Lythan Nevard, Chair of Compact, Kim Guest, Chief Executive Officer of HAVCO and Brigitte Gohdes, Programme Leader for the London Collaborative Young Foundation.

In March 2007, the Havering Strategic Partnership completed its Local public service agreement with Central Government and as a result, received £3.1m reward for achieving 9 out of 12 community based local targets. Throughout 2007, £300,000 of the reward money was allocated to community based projects around the borough. Partners who contributed towards getting the money were given funding to continue improving services and to start working towards the Local Area Agreement 1!!

In April 2007 the Havering Strategic Partnership signed a 3 year Local Area Agreement with Central Government and are now currently working towards another set of 12 community based local targets and are on track to successfully meet these targets by March 2010. This can earn the partnership up to £6.9m for improving the quality of life in Havering and would enable us to continue supporting more community projects and services.

In October 2007 the Havering Strategic Partnership began to outline its priorities for a Local Area Agreement 2. Since then, through workshops, events and a number of discussion groups the Havering Strategic Partnership has created and finalised its LAA2 submission.
