Andrew Ireland, Executive Director of Children's Services, London Borough of Havering

Andrew qualified as a Social Worker in 1980 and worked for the Borough of Croydon and Lewisham before joining Kent Social Services in 1987. He worked for Kent for 18 years in a number of roles covering the whole spectrum of Social Services work. In 2002 Andrew was appointed Area Director for Social Services in West Kent and in 2005 was seconded to Swindon Borough Council as Acting Director of Social Services leaving there when Swindon had achieved its first "one star" rating for Social Services. He was appointed to Havering as the "first" Group Director for Children's Services in January 2006. Although he still lives in Kent, Andrew was born and grew up in Essex and has many family connections with the Havering area.
